Park the car, proceed on foot and make a detour over to Yonge Street in Aurora Sunday, because it’s time, once again, for the World’s Longest Street Festival.
The 13th annual festival should offer something for just about everyone, festival organizer Kimberley Kerr said. If you’re looking for merchandise, music or just general merriment, you’ll find it, Ms Kerr said.
The theme of this year’s festival is walk to the beat, she said, pointing out to keep with that theme, kazoos will be handed out to the kids so they can make some music while their parents shop.
Children, however, shouldn’t have any trouble keeping entertained at the festival. There will be all sorts of venues and vendors aiming to entertain them. The kid-friendly activities include a YTV Weird on Wheels (WOW) station with games, children’s area presented by Law Insurance and some weird science with Freddy Fusion and his Mobile Magic Science Lab.
Kids of the adult variety will also probably be interested in the on-site auto show that will see 100 antique and vintage cars on display, while those looking for a bite to eat will have their pick of a whole assortment of tasty treats.
Shopaholics won’t be disappointed either, Mrs. Kerr said. With more than 550 vendors on the docket, they, too, will find a lot to love about the festival.
“I’m really hoping it will be a nice, sunny day so that lots of people will come out and have a look,” she said, adding there will be vendors selling everything from sunglasses to socks to jewelry and all kinds of other things.
Last year’s festival attracted about 35,000 people and Mrs. Kerr hopes that many, if not more, find their way to Yonge Street for this year’s event.
The festival gets under way at 11 a.m. The message? The more the merrier.
