Aurora council rejected a request to have an all-way intersection at Bayview Avenue and Wellington Street for a planned plaza Tuesday night.
Instead, council approved right-turn access from Bayview to get in to and out of the plaza at the northwest corner of Bayview and Wellington.
A staff report suggests this access will be enough to meet traffic needs.
Turning right to and from Wellington was already approved in the original plan.
People will also be able to get to the new plaza from a Home Depot store north of it, which is connected to the plaza.
The plaza’s property owners had requested an all-way intersection that allowed people to make right and left turns to and from Wellington to access the plaza.
This would have required installing a traffic light.
Longo’s supermarket, one of the potential tenants in the plaza, argued in favour of the all-way access based on the amount of traffic expected once the plaza is built.
Councillor Evelina MacEachern voted against the all-way intersection, saying it would mean cutting out a Wellington median that was installed to calm traffic and serve as a gateway into town.
