A two-vehicle crash in Aurora July 5 has claimed another life.
At about 10 a.m. that day, a Honda Civic was eastbound on Wellington Street when the vehicle crossed the centre line and crashed head-on into a westbound Toyota Camry east of Bayview Avenue.
Four people in the Civic were hospitalized after the collision — two with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to York Regional Police.
Three days after the crash, a 76-year-old Newmarket woman, who had been sitting in the Civic’s back seat, died from her injuries.
On Monday, the Civic’s driver, a 76-year-old Newmarket man, died from his injuries, police said.
The names of the woman and the man will not be released at the request of their families.
“There is evidence that seatbelts weren’t worn by all the parties,” collision reconstruction unit Const. Edmond Villamere said about the crash.
The driver of the Camry, who Const. Villamere added was wearing a seatbelt, was treated at hospital for minor injuries and released.
The Civic’s driver was at fault in the crash but no charges will be laid, Const. Villamere said.
Police are reminding drivers that seatbelt save lives and buckling up should be automatic for anyone getting into a vehicle.
