Give a Miracle a Chance, in support of cerebral palsy, hosts its annual gala benefit dance April 26 at the Egypt Hall.
The benefit is in support of all children living with cerebral palsy, including 2008 recipients Denton Webster-Marles of Georgina and twin sisters, Aaliyah and Amina Aumeer of Newmarket.
Both Aaliyah and Amina went undiagnosed through their mother’s pregnancy and were born three months premature, each weighing less than two pounds.
At 18 months, doctors officially diagnosed quadriplegic cerebral palsy.
At birth, Denton was born with 85 per cent damage to his brain and his life expectancy, without machines, was 48 hours. Quadriplegic cerebral palsy affects movement and muscle control in all of his limbs.
Give a Miracle a Chance is a non-profit organization that works to support families, to raise funds through community events and to open doors for all children.
They advocate on behalf of families with limited means or opportunities, helping them develop and enhance research avenues, access information and pursue opportunities for treatment and support.
Tickets for the gala are $15 a person or $25 per couple.
The first major fundraiser is the third annual mixed slo-pitch tournament June 21 and 22 at West Park in Keswick.
On July 19, the first annual Children’s Friendship Softball Tournament will be introduced.
