Members of the Georgina Skating Club wowed the crowd at the Ice Palace with a very unique interpretation of an Oscar Night celebration on Saturday. The skaters did two two performances that were both full of non-stop action and had 26 different parts.
“Tonight was a lot of fun,” said Tori Ambrose, a gold skater in the club’s rendition of Queen’s Somebody To Love. “The Oscar Night shows were a great opportunity to showoff the skills that we’ve been learning all year. It makes everyone feel really proud of how hard they’ve worked.”
The first half of the skating show featured performances paying tribute to Sony’s Surf’s up, Disney’s Cars and Disney’s Ratatouille. Spectators were also treated to bronze skaters skating to Gia Farrell’s Hit Me Up.
Devon Stock and Travis Sherriff-Clayton worked together to make Frank Sinatra’s My Way come to life for the crowd before Samantha Sesler and Samantha Twynam performed a memorable rendition of Boogie Woogie to complete the first half of the show.
After a short intermission, Georgina’s Skating Club came back to pick up right where they left off.
The girl’s athletic program hit the ice and caused everyone in the crowd to smile when they performed their high school musical, Breaking Free. The Canskate B group followed with their version of a high school musical, Bop To The Top.
Silver skaters Anne Sibbald and Nadine Anderson performed another high school musical before the boy’s Wildcat basketball team and the bronze girls did their performance.
“This was one of the best shows we’ve done so far,” said Jesse Sesler. “Bringing the basketballs on the ice was challenging, but everyone did a great job.”
Spectators were treated to another memorable performance by gold skaters, Courtney Foster and Brittany Rice.
Foster is a dedicated skater who loves her job as a program assistant in the learn to skate program. Rice also loves skating and is currently working towards becoming a coach.
The girls took over the ice for the next three shows and completed the Hairspray performances. In the final segment, four boys joined the girls and did their best to show off the new pairs program at the Georgina skating club.
The girls finished the Oscar Night performance with another two shows and then novice competitive skaters, Amanda White and Courtney Smith finished off the show by skating to Beyonce’s Listen.
