The next few years are going to be exciting for Georgina Mobility Transit/Transit Georgina’s volunteers and clients.
Thanks to a three-year, $173,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the group has opened a storefront office at 112 High St. in Sutton.
Until now, this service has been operated out of people’s homes and from remote locations, executive director Cathy Wilkinson said.
This office increases its ability to help those who need transportation assistance, she added.
“With this support from the foundation, Transit Georgina will be able to help meet the needs of Georgina residents even better,” said York North MPP Julia Munro at Transit Georgina’s annual meeting.
The grant, which was made in November, is being used to create a hub of community information for the area where you can have access to materials outlining the services available, Ms Wilkinson said.
In addition, the grant gives those in need of support an opportunity to come in to the office to book rides.
“Transit Georgina is finally able to provide its own dispatch capabilities; previously, it was done through another company. Funds will be used to help cover key staffing, program and administrative costs,” she said.
Thanks to the storefront office, “We’re learning more and more from talking with riders about the needs of the community and are looking to meeting those needs”.
Rides are available seven days a week. To arrange a ride, call the dispatcher (905-722-4616) Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
You must give a minimum of 24 hours’ notice.
