The lives of 12 special women were celebrated in 12 insightful photographs released as a calendar/book at a reception at the Briars Resort.

Women of Wisdom, by noted photographer Gabi von Gans, includes special words of philosophical advice from the 12, leading with January’s Mary Schofield of Georgina, who remarks, “Don’t be afraid. Stick with your goals and dreams.

“Close that door and open the next.

“Remember, today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Finally, it’s not the years in your life that count, but the life in your years.”

Legendary Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion is February and writes, “If I have learned anything in my 87 years, it is the importance of not only striving for success, but also striving for significance and to live a life of purpose.

“Eleanor Powell said it best: ‘What we are is God’s gift to us; what we become is our gift to God’.”

Other women include Alice Larivierre, Georgina school trustee Nancy Elgie (“You are how you think. Believe in your capacity to succeed and you will.”), Ruth Reid, Helen McKinnon Doan, Beverley Harvey, Rev. Frances Deverell, Helen Doan Sr., Aurora Mayor Phyllis Morris, Ivy Big Canoe and the Briars’ Barbara Sibbald (“Meet challenges with enthusiasm. Use what you learn from these and make a positive difference in the lives of families, friends and the community”).

The book is dedicated to the memory of Frances Jean  Mullen, a breast cancer survivor for 29 years and the mother of her partner Rob Mullen, Ms von Gans said.

She is donating $10 from the sale of the perpetual calendar book to benefit breast cancer research.

It has been released in a limited edition of 1,000 copies. Cost is $20 each.
