Free Family Flicks for Food is the theme for the Gem’s eleventh anniversary family day to be held Sept. 7. The Gem will celebrate by providing free Matinee flicks in exchange for a donation to the food bank. Promoting the event are owner R.J. Gorman and daughter, Martina, 7.

The Gem Theatre’s annual Free Family Flicks for Food to benefit the Georgina food bank will be held Sunday, Sept. 7.
This is the 11th year Gem owner R.J. Gorman is presenting free family films in exchange for a donation to the food bank.
Food bank supplies are at their lowest at this time of year, Mr. Gorman said.
“We have many families right in our own back yard who desperately need the support of the community,” he said.
Mr. Gorman’s challenge is for you to make a difference by responding and making this year’s fundraiser the largest ever.
The Gem has a good line up of films for the family and they are staggered throughout the day to accommodate the most amount of people, Mr. Gorman said.
“We urge you to pack a large bag of the non-perishable items you can spare, pick-up grandma and grandpa and bring the whole family to the Gem for a fun-filled day on us,” he said.
Mr. Gorman thanked the Gem’s loyal patrons for supporting the theatre throughout their time in Georgina “and we look forward to continuing to provide quality family films for your enjoyment for many years to come. See you at the movies”.
