With Sunday's federal election call looming, York-Simcoe MP Peter Van Loan made the final Lake Simcoe Clean-Up Fund announcements this morning in Keswick.

Mr. Van Loan, the government House Leader, was on hand for the presentation of a cheque for $6,155 that will help fund an erosion control project on the banks of Lake Simcoe at the foot of Walter Drive.

While not specifically stating the writ will be dropped, he confirmed an announcement regarding the election was coming from Prime Minister Stephen Harper Sunday and that he planned to open his campaign office in Bradford.

His opponent, Liberal Judith Moses, said this week she'll also be headquartered in Bradford.

Mr. Van Loan took the opportunity to announce the full list of funds for the first round. A second round of funding applications will be opening in the next few days. Community groups who have plans for projects to improve Lake Simcoe's health should make an application, he said.

"Through strong partnerships, we can make the formal investment for Lake Simcoe's environment producing ever more results," Mr Van Loan said.

The deadline for applications is Oct. 1.

Today's funding announcement is in partnership with the Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority and the Town of Georgina.

All together, the federal government has committed $30 million to the Lake Simcoe Clean-Up Fund set up last February.

In addition to Mr. Van Loan and Ms Moses, confirmed candidates for the York-Simcoe riding include Sylvia Gerl (NDP), John Dewar (Green), Vicki Gunn (Canadian Heritage) and Paul Pisani (Progressive Canadian).
