The Ministry of Natural Resources is asking you to be extra cautious on the roads at this time of year when more wildlife is on the move.
Deer in large numbers are moving to their winter grounds in Georgina and northern York Region, crossing many east-west roads, in particular Metro, Baseline, Old Homestead roads, Hwy, 48 as well as most secondary rural roads.
Deer are active in the fall, especially at dawn and dusk, as they search for mates and food.
They rarely travel alone, so when motorists see one there are likely more nearby.
If you see any animal along the road, slow down and sound your horns in a series of short bursts.
At night, flash your headlights to warn the animals and give them a chance to move out of the way.
Take extra care where roads cross creeks or rivers, in wooded corridors or where field edges run perpendicular to the road.
You should also be cautious where fences meet roads and where deer crossing signs are posted.
