Regional council approved purchasing nearly 300 acres of land in East Gwillimbury and Whitchurch-Stouffville for the expansion of the Bendor and Graves tracts of the York Regional Forest.

The securement cost $3.3 million and adds to the 2,000 acres of green lands the region has purchased as part of the greening strategy since 2001.

It is the largest single purchase made under the strategy.
