Young readers in King will have new materials to help them learn, thanks to a $7,000 donation to the King Township Public Library Friday.

The cash, an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant, goes toward providing more materials for children, library chief executive officer Murray McCabe said.

“We’ll be buying books, puppets and upgrading our children’s cassettes to CDs.”

The money is being divided between the library’s four branches, he noted.

“We’ll be getting large story books we’ll be using a lot during story time,” children and young adult services manager Kelley England said.

“We’ll also be getting non-fiction DVDs.”

Variety is the spice of life, so it’s important to offer children new materials, Ms England said. It keeps them interested.

Apart from the grant announcement, the ceremony honoured King residents Jean Boynton and Cliff Kettlewell for volunteerism.

Mrs. Boynton has been a long standing member of the Women’s institute and a participant with the Nobleton Community Hall board.

Mr. Kettlewell, who has lived in King for 35 years, was honoured for serving 22 years with the Lions Club and participating in King City seniors programs.
