Cricket tournament under way in King City

Sri Lanka's super rookie Ajuntha Mendis took three wickets as Sri Lanka cruised to a five-wicket win over Zimbabwe during the opening game of the T20 Canada Cup cricket tournament in King City this morning.

The game was delayed due to a wet outfield, but it didn't Sri Lanka long to get going.

After putting the Zimbabweans into bat, Sri Lanka got its first wicket in the second over of the game.

They went on to bowl Zimbabwe for 106 runs.

Tillakaratne Dilshan led the Sri Lankan attack with 33 runs as they made the required 107 for victory with five wickets to spare.

The T20 Canada Cup tournament features Canada, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

All games are at the Maple Leaf North-West ground at Seneca's King campus.

Canada takes on Pakistan this afternoon.

The tournament winds up Monday with the third-place and first-place games.
