A stand-off in Richmond Hill ended peacefully Friday afternoon with the arrest of a man.
At about 11:40 a.m., York Regional Police received a call from a middle-aged woman at a home on Crosby Avenue near Newkirk Road about a hostage situation, Insp. Mark Brown said.
Police were told a man was inside the home confining a second man in his 20s, he said.
“It’s a family relationship there,” Insp. Brown said at the scene. “It started off as a domestic situation.”
An assault involving the two men and a firearm had taken place earlier in the day, he added.
No shots were fired, Insp. Brown said.
As many as 30 officers, including tactical units, arrived at the scene as negotiations began with the people inside the home, Insp. Brown said.
A man eventually surrendered to police about two hours after the incident began, he said. A firearm was recovered by police.
A man in his 60s was arrested.
He will face several charges including assault with a weapon and forcible confinement, Insp. Brown said.
Police did not comment about what motivated the incident.
