Three people were arrested in Markham yesterday after an SUV was driven over one unmarked police vehicle and crash into another.

At about 12:30 p.m. York Regional Police were investigating break-ins in the Middlefield Road and Elson Street area, near McCowan Road and Steeles Avenue, when they spotted three people leaving a home carrying property.

The trio got into a 2003 Hummer and tried to leave past an unmarked police vehicle. As officers tried to stop the Hummer, it drove over a police vehicle’s hood and up the windshield, before falling off and striking another vehicle parked on the street, police said.

The Hummer’s driver then reversed and struck another police vehicle.

Three people were arrested and property was seized.

The two officers involved in the takedown were not hurt, police spokesperson Const. Marina Orlovski said.

One of the people arrested was taken to hospital with minor injuries resulting from the collision.

The SIU is not involved in the case, Const. Orlovski said.

A 21-year-old Scarborough man is charged with mischief endangering life, three counts of breaking and entering, possession of stolen property, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.

A 19-year-old Markham man is charged with three counts of breaking and entering and possession of stolen property.

An 18-year-old Markham woman is charged with two counts of breaking and entering and possession of stolen property.

The men were held in custody and are scheduled to appear in court today.

The woman was released and is scheduled for a court appearance June 20.

In an unrelated incident in Toronto this morning, a man was arrested after a motorist drove into two police officers before driving through the city at high speeds, at times hitting speeds as high as 160 km/h.
