Two men face hate crime charges in connection with a display at a Georgina home in November. Acting on a complaint, police found a plastic, life-sized skeleton which had been painted black and suspended from a flagpole flying a Confederate flag at a home in the Elm Avenue and Queensway area of Keswick. The skeleton was suspended by its neck with a rope fashioned into a hangman’s noose.
Last week police arrested a 25-year-old Georgina man and an 21-year-old Markham man, charging each with wilful promotion of hate. Police required consent from the Ontario Attorney General to lay the charges, including in the hate crime section of the Criminal Code.
Both men are to appear in a Newmarket court June 17.
