The future of Oak Ridges Moraine land on the east side of Bathurst Street between Mulock Drive and St. John’s Sideroad is driving Newmarket and a developer to the Ontario Municipal Board.

Mademont Investment Ltd., is asking the board to allow residential development on the land, which politicians turned down earlier this year.

A pre-hearing meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at the Newmarket municipal offices on Mulock Drive east of Yonge Street.

This will mark the first time the town defends its right to manage and protect the moraine, town lawyer Susan Plamondon said.

“I’m not against development. But it has to be smart development,” council member Dennis Ramsarran said.

Mademount wants to create 448 lots on 70 acres for semi-detached and town houses.

You can attend the pre-hearing meeting, ask questions and voice your
opinion.
