Game Notes — Justin Hogan and Andrew Buck scored power play goals in the final seven minutes to break a 5-5 tie and send the Hurricanes to their second straight win Sunday night over the Toronto Jr. Canadiens at Chesswood Arena. Jamie Wise had three assists for the Hurricanes as Luke Maw, Daniel Zweep, Paul Clancy, Chris McKay and Chad Sumsion each scored single goals. Netminder Jimmy Sarjeant made 35 saves in recording his second straight win ... At home, the Hurricanes spotted the Waxers two first-period goals before storming back with five straight tallies, including two goals by Chris MacKay. Chad Sumsion highlighted a four-point game with three assists while Jamie Wise had one goal among three points. Markham outshot Newmarket 15-5 in the opening period before finishing with a 37-31 edge.
The Skinny — ... Chad Sumsion and Jamie Wise lead the Hurricanes in scoring with 11 points. Both have five goals ... The Hurricanes sport the second best goals against average in the Central Division with 23 goals surrendered in seven games entering play last night at Hamilton. Wellington Dukes have yielded 21 ... Newmarket entered play last night at Hamilton sitting one point behind the St. Mike’s Buzzers and Canadiens but had played two fewer games ... Defenceman Jim Campbell (hand) is still two weeks away from returning to the lineup ... Forward Jordan Shine (knee) remains indefinite. He had major knee surgery in January as a member of the London Knights ... The Hurricanes have been hampered by other injuries — Andrew Buck saw limited duty Sunday due to a leg injury and P.J. Buys (groin) are among the walking wounded. “We haven’t had any healthy scratches,” said head coach Brian Perrin.
Say It — “We’ve had some poor starts and I don’t know why it is that way,” said head coach Brian Perrin, referring back to Thursday’s contest in which the Hurricanes trailed the Markham Waxers 2-0 after one period.
