Chalk another for Richmond Hill.

The OHL announced Richmond Hill native and current Maple resident Stefan Della Rovere of the Barrie Colts as its player of the week.

The 18-year-old scored four goals and notched three assists in two games.

A seventh round draft pick by the Washington Capitals in the 2008 NHL draft, Della Rovere put the Colts on the scoreboard early in last Thursday’s 4-3 overtime loss against the visiting Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds with a power-play goal.

He was credited with an assist that tied the game early in the third period.

Della Rovere followed that effort with a three-goal, two-assist effort last Saturday in the Colts’ 7-2 win over the Windsor Spitfires.

His first career OHL hat-trick included a first period goal to open the scoring, a second period power-play insurance marker, and a late third period shorthanded tally.

The Colts’ team captain was named the first star of the game.

Even though the OHL season is only a few weeks old, Della Rovere is the second Richmond Hill resident to earn player of the week honours.

Sept. 22 Matt Lyall, captain of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds won the honour.
