The Vaughan Italia Shooters celebrated Canada Day with a 4-1 win over Portugal FC in Canadian Soccer League action Monday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School in Maple.

The Shooters' Frank Jonke opened the scoring just 12 minutes into the match.

Just 14 minutes later, Jonke delivered his second goal of the game to pad the Italia Shooters' lead to 2-0.

Portugal's Emerson Fiti reduced the Shooters' lead to 2-1 at 40 minutes with a free kick from 25 yards.

But that would be as close as they would get as Jason De Thomasis struck twice, both from close range, to round out the scoring.

The victory improved the Shooters' first-place record in the International Division to 6-2-1.

The team resumes league play Saturday when it travels to Trois-Rivieres to face the Attak at 8 p.m.
