Younger sister also going to world championship

Ten-year-old Jackie Peng called checkmate on the nation, as she brought home the national chess crown for her age group in Quebec City Sunday.

Representing Ontario, the Richmond Hill girl, a Crosby Heights Public School student, went undefeated, winning six and drawing one match to claim the Canadian title.

The Grade 5 student is spending her summer preparing for the World Youth Championships this October in Vietnam.

The tournament will be more like a Peng family vacation, Jackie’s mom Xuekun Xing says, as Jackie’s little sister Janet placed third in the nationals and will also compete at the world’s.
