A man was hospitalized and two people were on the run after a robbery inside a Markham variety store this afternoon.
Just after 1 p.m., York Regional Police were called to KG’s Convenience Groceries & Variety at 5460 Hwy. 7 E., east of Laidlaw Boulevard by the shop’s owner.
Investigators have learned a shot was fired inside the store and money was demanded, according to hold up unit Det.-Const. Pat Smyth.
One man, a customer, was pistol-whipped before two people escaped with cash and cigarettes.
By 3 p.m., those two people were on the loose and were last seen fleeing in a northeasterly direction on a path leading from a sidewalk along Hwy. 7 to King Richard Crescent, according to police.
The customer was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
