A Hamilton area woman is charged after a Markham company noticed financial irregularities on corporate credit card accounts.
An unidentified large pharmaceutical company entrusted an employee to pay internal and external costs associated with company events, including training, sales meetings, group meals, entertainment and gifts for employees and non-employees, York Regional Police said.
Three corporate credit cards were issued to pay for company purchases.
However, between January 2005 and June 2007, the company cards were used to make personal purchases, police said, adding the company began to notice discrepancies with accounts and launched an internal probe.
It contacted police and an arrest was made Monday.
Monica Freitas, 38, of Freelton is charged with three counts of fraud over $5,000 and three counts of the unauthorized use of a credit card.
She was released and is scheduled to appear in a Newmarket court Oct. 23.
