“Particularly, given the tough economic times, it was inspiring to see people donate what they could to help improve the lives of their fellow neighbours.”
Staff at Meridian Credit Union, despite current market instability, banded together to raise and donate $177,000 to the 2008 United Way campaign, announced James Ecker, manager for the Richmond Hill branch this week.
“This year’s United Way campaign truly shows the commitment of Meridian staff and members to the communities where they live and work,” said Mr. Ecker.
“Particularly, given the tough economic times, it was inspiring to see people donate what they could to help improve the lives of their fellow neighbours.”
Employees across Meridian’s operating regions worked together to create events and fundraising activities, including raffles, lunches and payroll donations, to help raise money for local United Way campaigns.
As a result of these events, Meridian’s 74 United Way Champions were able to ensure that all United Way agencies across Ontario benefited from the campaign.
This year’s donation also includes a $50,000 commitment made to the United Way through Meridian Credit Union’s Good Neighbour Program.
