Alexander Henry claimed a silver medal in his age group division at the recent Commonwealth Takewondo Championships in Winnipeg.

Competing in the Junior A Bantam Division as one of the younger competitors in that group, the 13-year-old Markham resident won his first match over James Beau Lang from Australia 11-8.

He then battled Pasqualino Galluci of Quebec and fell 8-7.

A Grade 9 student at Bill Crothers Secondary School, Henry is a black belt (first Dan/Poom) and trains at Young Choung Taekwondo Academy.

In addition to taking taekwondo, Henry studies karate in his spare time. For more info on the championships, visit www.2008commonwealthtaekwondo.com
