Multi-level gold skaters starring in Stouffville club’s 44th ice show
By: Alyshia Higgins

Two local skaters will shine at this year’s ice show.

Carley Berry and Brittany Dunbar are this year’s opening and closing soloists. Both girls are multiple gold-level skaters, and have been skating since age 2.

For the first time, guest skaters will not be in the show. Instead, skaters from only the club will showcase their talents.

The 44th bi-annual Stouffville Skating Club’s Ice Revue takes place May 9 and 10.

This year’s theme is Skater’s Choice Awards and features music from Hannah Montana, Hairspray, and Dirty Dancing.

Registration started early this year and skaters of all ages and abilities are taking to the ice to get ready, co-chairperson Sheila Dunbar said.

About 120 skaters have registered for the event, which is average for the show.

While Brittany has been the opening soloist in a previous ice show, this is Carley’s first time.

“I was kind of surprised when I found out I had got the solo,” Carley said. “I was really happy, but I didn’t think I would get it.”

Brittany said this time around, she’s a little nervous being of the last performances of the show.

“It’s the last thing people are going to see, so there’s more pressure to do a good job,” she said. “I’m really excited, though.”

Despite being nervous, Brittany and Carley are confident this show will be the best yet.

“It’s going to be a really good show,” Carley said. “I think it’ll be more fun for us too.”

“(The show) is geared toward all ages and there’s a lot of extras,” Brittany said, adding she and fellow skaters will sport hair pieces.

New lighting will be used to make the show more exciting, she said.

Both girls have different opinions as to what the best part of the show is for them.

“Dress rehearsal is a lot of fun because of the pictures,” said Carley, who added the photographer always makes the skaters laugh.

“The first show is the most exciting (part) for me,” Brittany said. “It’s so exciting.”

Dunbar added the platinum sponsors assist with making the show possible, some of which include Todd Brothers Contracting, Headlines Salon and Spa, Lions Club of Stouffville, Asset Engineering, Boston Pizza, CIBC, Butler Storage Trailer Rentals, Butler Disposal and Recycling and the Stouffville Sun-Tribune.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children younger than 12.

They can be purchased in advance by calling 905-640-4024 or on the day of the show.

Anyone with questions about the show can call Sheila Dunbar at 905-640-8643 or Theresa Carr at 905-640-7965.
