Cory Tanaka has certainly made the most of his ice time at the 2008 Memorial Cup in Kitchener.

The 20-year-old Stouffville resident and centre for the Belleville Bulls is second among overall scorers in the event with three goals and one assist in two games.

More important though, his shorthanded goal early in the second period of yesterday’s contest against the Gatineau Olympiques was instrumental in the Bulls’ 6-3 win.

The victory atoned for a heartbreaking 5-4 overtime loss Saturday to the Spokane Chiefs. In that game, Tanaka scored two goals.

Entering the tournament as an Ontario Hockey League finalist, the Bulls next game is 7 p.m. tomorrow against OHL champs, the Kitchener Rangers, also 1-1 in the tournament.
