As sweet as it may be, that ice cream truck on your street is breaking the law.

The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, which licenses vendors, says there are currently no licensed trucks operating in the municipality.

The municipality wants you to call the town (905-640-1910 ext. 225 or 229) if you see a truck. Fines are $255.

“You’d have to sell a lot of ice cream to pay for one ticket,” senior bylaw enforcement officer Keith Saunders said.

Vendors are licensed to ensure proper food handling, screening for criminal records by police and compliance with hours of operation, he said.

Trucks can’t play music, but can have a hand bell, according to the bylaw.

Ice cream licences were granted for the Strawberry Festival and the town has licensed hot dog and chip wagons.
