It’s time to sit back, relax and enjoy the show, literally.
A meditation session and film screening takes place Aug. 21 from noon to 4:45 p.m. at the Whitchurch-Stouffville Library.
Victor Demko, a filmmaker and meditation instructor, will lead the event. He will teach participants basic breathing practises before the film, Personal Time with Swami-ji.
The film was shot in the Indian Himalayas and brings Himalayan yoga master Swami Sundaranand to viewers through the screen to teach about the spiritual inner self.
Participants will learn awareness of their breath, energy centres in the body and the exploration of the sound “Om”.
Mr. Demko came up with the idea to create the film, which is part of a series, after receiving the inspiration to open a healing arts centre.
“The more I thought about it, the more I realized what I needed (to create) was a virtual centre,” he said. “I came up with idea of a TV series with healers based in authentic spiritual traditions.”
Response to Mr. Demko’s website, thecenterforhealingarts.com, has been overwhelmingly positive, he said.
“I get e-mails from all over the world — people from Australia, New Zealand, different parts of Europe, just thanking me for making this piece of work.”
The film has been shown in 14 countries, including Malaysia, England, France, Austria and Egypt.
“I think the main thing is people don’t really know where to turn,” he said. “They want someone they can trust who will bring authentic teachers and traditions to them.”
Mr. Demko said the work gives him “satisfaction to be able to help people by linking them to spiritual healing traditions,” he said.
Tickets in advance are $47.25 or $57.75 at the door. To register, call 905-642-READ (7323).
