The Stouffville Mennos generated just six hits in their Oshawa City and District Softball League road game against Lake Simcoe in Sharon Tuesday.
That shortage of firepower, combined with Lake Simcoe hurler Rick May fanning 17 Mennos’ batters, proved to be the difference in a 3-2 extra-inning loss.
The Mennos scored both of their runs in the first inning when Lake Simcoe committed two errors and shortstop Jeff Boadway hit a run-scoring triple.
Lake Simcoe scored a run in the fourth inning to cut their deficit and tied the game with a run in the seventh inning.
In the eighth inning, the Mennos had a runner on third base with one out but failed to capitalize on the opportunity.
Lake Simcoe scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning.
Jay Nesbitt pitched a fine game for Stouffville but took the loss.
The Mennos are 13-8 on the season.
