Stouffville event in top 10 in Ontario
Jim Mason

You’re invited to one of Stouffville’s biggest parties.

The community’s Terry Fox Run was in the top 10 of all runs in Ontario financially in 2007.

Since 1982, the event has raised $875,000 in Stouffville, including $752,740 from the community events and $122,762 from area school runs.

Last year’s event drew 752 participants and raised $85,000. There were 100 volunteers.

That has organizers hoping to crack the $1-million mark from this year’s proceeds. This year’s run goes Sunday, Sept. 14.

“We hope many of our new residents will join us this year to see their chosen community in action,” co-ordinator Sandy Schell Kennedy said. “The event is a great way to meet up with neighbours and those in our community who are working together to advance cancer research.

“We are an inclusive event; you can walk, run, cycle, roller blade, push a stroller, pull a wagon, walk your dog. The event attracts all ages, from infants to our seniors.”

You can take part from 1 to 4 p.m. from the Stouffville Arena and track on Ninth Line and head out on the 5k course that winds through northern Stouffville.

Pledge forms can be picked up at Boston Pizza, Schell Lumber, The Sun-Tribune, The Tanning Zone, Country Depot and the arena, at terryfoxrun.org or by calling 905-640-4705.
