The number 7 is usually lucky.
Not so much for the Stouffville Spirit during Thursday’s Ontario Junior Hockey League game against the St. Michael’s Buzzers at the Stouffville Arena.
The Buzzers handed the Spirit their seventh straight loss, a 7-3 decision.
The Spirit led 3-2 after one period.
But from there, it was all downhill as the Buzzers scored the only two goals of both the second and third periods.
Matt McCann, Craig McDowell and Matt Viola scored for the Spirit, who are in last place in the Central Division with one shootout win, one shootout loss and eight losses.
The Buzzers outshot the Spirit 41-32 in a game that honoured former Stouffville captain Randy Johnston with the retirement of his No. 26. Johnston will play for Muskegon in the International league this season.
After last night’s re-match at St. Michael’s in Toronto, the Spirit will play Monday in Hamilton against the Red Wings.
Spirited notes: Former Spirit forward Ethan Werek scored a highlight-reel goal for his first in the Ontario Hockey League in a 6-4 loss against the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors last week.
