Lorraine Norman won first prize for her business plan, but that doesn’t mean she wouldn’t change a few things if she could.

“I have actually found two mistakes in my project that have bothered me,” said the Brother Andre Catholic High School student, who won the Secondary School Business Plan Competition organized by the Town of Markham and the Ministry of Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

Ms Norman designed a business plan for a restaurant, which included budgeting, costs of expenses, objective of the business, a human resources plan and more.

Lorraine entered the competition as a project for her entrepreneur teacher

“The idea of choosing what type of business I wanted to do my business plan on actually took quite a few days,” Ms Norman said.

“It has helped me confirm the decision of what I want to do in my future ... the award has also taught me about what a successful business plan really consists of and all the hard work that is put into running a business,” she said.

The Ontario Summer Company awards were presented to three university students: Anita Chiu, Carmen Law, and Caroline Hung.

“I have learned several key skills that can be used in everyday life and involvement in the business world,”  Ms Law said. Among those skills are organization, time management, teamwork and delegating.
