Stouffville talent will perform in support of its neighbours next month.
Vocalist Jocelyn McDowell will be guest performer at Bach to Blues’ annual Christmas concert.
“We thought it would be nice to bring her back,” choir director Ann Gage said of Ms McDowell, who performed with the group before moving to Montreal to attend McGill University for vocal performance four years ago.
Other special guests will include pianist Kathy Normandeau and flutist Emily Kostandoff.
This year’s concert set will include a 16th century madrigal, a 1950s-styled doo-wop of Whatya Gonna Bring for Christmas, a twist on the old favourite Tidings of Comfort and Joy, and “a fun little number that introduces some classical music variations on Deck the Halls,” Ms Gage said.
Like all Bach to Blues concerts, the evening’s proceeds will be go to charity. This year’s recipient is the Whitchurch-Stouffville Emergency Care Fund.
“It seems that in these difficult financial times it was a logical decision to assist people in the community who have fallen on hard times,” Ms Gage said.
The emergency fund was launched last year to help residents affected by fire, car accident, illness or death. The fund compliments work done by Whitchurch-Stouffville churches, service clubs and the food bank.
Since the group’s inception in 1998, it has raised about $20,000 for area charities.
The 90-minute concert takes place Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Church Anglican, 254 Sunset Blvd.
Tickets are available from the church office (905-640-1461), Dorothy Moore (905-640-5999) or Ann Gage (905-649-2684) and cost $10 for adults. Children under 12 are $5.
