Calling all dog lovers!
The day of reckoning grows near, as The Richmond Hill K9 Klub is sniffing around town, looking for dog lovers to lead them into what should prove to be an exciting new year.
The time has come to organize and elect a leash-free park committee for Richmond Hill’s first trial dog park.
The meeting at 10100 Yonge St., the McConaghy Seniors Centre, room 204, Tuesday, December 2 at 7 p.m. will set the groundwork for a test park, that, if successful, could lead to a permanent facility.
The club won Town Council support to establish Richmond Hill’s first leash-free dog park on a one-year trial basis, after presenting a petition signed by more than 500 residents to councillors on September 22.
Town Council gave the K9 Klub the green light for a one-year trial, with a dog park under the club’s watch and operation.
And now the Richmond Hill K9 Klub is throwing a bone out to pooch pals around town, in an attempt to fetch some much-needed committee members.
“We need people willing to physically help out when it comes time for the park. It is an opportunity we need to take and show the soul of our community to council,” said Ana Nair, Richmond Hill K9 Klub founder.
Membership in the K9 Klub is free.
Other such off-leash parks exist in Markham and Aurora.
Ward 4 Councillor Lynn Foster is a supporter of the leash-free park and according to K9 Klub members, Ward 4 may offer a possible location for the trial park.
Prior to its creation, Town officilas stated a number of issues will need to be addressed, including public consultation with those living near the pilot project park, a recommendation for the site of choice, and establishment of an Off Leash Area Policy.
